Is ClickUp Brain safe for business data?
ClickUp says its AI is not trained on your Workspace data, and its contracts stop its AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) from using or keeping it.

What it does with your data
| Question | All ClickUp plans |
|---|---|
| Trains on your data by default? | No. ClickUp says ClickUp AI is not trained on data from your Workspace, and its AI partners may not use it for training. Read on October 24, 2026 · source: help.clickup.com |
| How long chats are kept | ClickUp says it has zero data retention agreements with all the AI companies it uses, so they may not keep your data after processing it. ClickUp itself keeps personal data as long as reasonably needed to provide the service. Read on October 24, 2026 · source: help.clickup.com |
| Who can read them | Only what you can already see. Brain uses only Workspace data the person asking can open, and private Brain chats are visible only to the person who started them. ClickUp engineers see a conversation only if you downvote an answer. Read on October 24, 2026 · source: help.clickup.com |
| Where data is stored | On Amazon Web Services. AI requests go to providers such as OpenAI in the United States, even if your Workspace data is hosted in the EU. Read on October 24, 2026 · source: help.clickup.com |
| How to delete | Ask ClickUp to delete your personal information; it deletes it from active databases as soon as practical, though backup copies can be hard to remove. Read on October 24, 2026 · source: clickup.com |

Safer setup for a small team
Keep Workspace permissions tight, because Brain can use anything the person asking can open, and be careful what knowledge you give AI Agents.
Plan to approve: Your company ClickUp Workspace
Setting to check: Tight Workspace permissions; limited Agent knowledge
A line for your AI policy: Staff use ClickUp Brain only in our company Workspace. Agents get only the knowledge their job needs.
Want this in your team’s AI policy? The SafeStart kit, a plain-English AI policy and training for small teams, is coming soon.
