Is Granola safe for business data?
Granola says it trains on anonymized meeting data unless you opt out, except on Enterprise, where training is off by default; it keeps notes and transcripts until you delete them or set auto-deletion.
Training, plan by plan
- Used for training: Free and Business: used, anonymized, unless you opt out.
- Not used for training: Enterprise: not used by default.
What it does with your data

|---|---|---|
| Trains on your data by default? | Yes, unless you opt out. Granola says it trains on your anonymized data, and each user can turn this off. Outside AI providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic may not train on your data. Read on October 23, 2026 · source: granola.ai | No, by default. Granola says Enterprise users have model training turned off by default, and admins can opt the whole organization out. Read on October 23, 2026 · source: granola.ai |
| How long chats are kept | Until you delete them. Granola keeps notes and transcripts indefinitely unless you set an auto-deletion period for transcripts. It does not keep meeting audio after transcription. | Who can read them | Only you, until you share. Granola says notes are private by default, no one in your workspace can see them unless you share them, and admins cannot view your private notes. How to turn training off
- In Granola, go to Settings, then Preferences, then Data & sharing, and turn off “Use my data to improve models for everyone.” On Business plans, each user must do this. Source: docs.granola.ai
- Set an auto-deletion period for transcripts in your settings so they are not kept indefinitely. A one-week cooldown applies before it takes effect. Source: docs.granola.ai
- Keep notes private unless you choose to share them. Granola says notes are private by default and admins cannot see them. Source: docs.granola.ai
Safer setup for a small team
Have each person on a Business plan turn off “Use my data to improve models for everyone,” set a transcript auto-deletion period, and tell people before Granola transcribes.
Plan to approve: Granola Enterprise, or Business with every user opted out
Setting to check: Model training off, transcript auto-deletion set
A line for your AI policy: Staff use Granola only with model training turned off and a transcript auto-deletion period set. Everyone on a call is told before Granola transcribes.
Want this in your team’s AI policy? The SafeStart kit, a plain-English AI policy and training for small teams, is coming soon.
